GETTING TO KNOW our Decaf
Often frowned upon, decaf coffee can be delicious when done well. We believe they should be treated with the same respect as our other coffees, and we’re on a mission to bring you the cream of the non-caffeinated crop.
Our current decaf is simply delightful. In the cup, we find a sweet toffee flavour, complimented by stewed fruit & raisin tasting notes.
El Eden is a blend of coffees produced by 16 farmers in Armenia, Quindío, a small region in the heart of the Colombian mountains.
This region, the second smallest department in Colombia, has one of the highest concentrations of coffee producers in the country, thanks to its biodiversity and incomparable environment.
Picking from their mainly Castillo and Catimor planted fields, the coffee is typically wet processed the same day as picking and dried on patios or drying beds with a roof that is on rails to protect from weather.
Once dry, the coffee is ready for the Swiss Water decaffeination process, an organic, 100% chemical-free option.
To decaffeinate coffee, fresh GCE (Green Coffee Extract) is introduced to a batch of green coffee. As the GCE is already saturated with all the water-soluble compounds found in green coffee, minus the caffeine, the matching molecules won't diffuse out of the coffee beans - but the caffeine will.
