No tricks, just a treat. 🎃
Half the caffeine, full of flavour.
Trick or Treat is our limited edition Half Caff Halloween Blend. Think chocolatey richness, jammy sweetness, and a hint of warm spice. A true autumn indulgence.
Both coffees in our limited edition Halloween blend come from the Monte Albán area in Mexico: Monte Albán coffee grows in the vicinity of the city of Oaxaca. All of these small-scale farmers are certified-organic and produce amazing coffees.
For the coffee growers of this region, specialty coffee production is relatively new, but they are keen to continue learning and improving.
They strive to produce coffee varieties such as bourbon and typica. Dominant sweetness, mild acidity, and clean finish make the Mexican coffee a perfect everyday brew, whether you prefer caffeinated or decaffeinated versions; of filter, pour-over, or even espresso.
We’re excited to offer you a half-caff option! This blend is crafted from coffee grown in the same region, using two different processing methods: fully washed and decaffeinated washed.
Carefully sourced and roasted, it delivers balanced flavour with half the caffeine.
More about the process: The traditional washed method happens when ripe coffee cherries are handpicked for peak sugar content and uniform ripeness. Then they are passed through a machine that removes the outer skin and most of the fruit (= pulp). The beans are placed in fermentation tanks for 20 - 24 hours. This step is key to developing the coffee’s clarity and brightness.
After fermentation, the beans are rinsed with clean water to remove all remaining residue and after, the clean beans are spread out to dry, on raised beds, patios, or in mechanical dryers, until they reach the ideal moisture content (typically 10 -12%).
For the decaffeinated part of the blend there was used the Mountain Water Process, very unique to Mexico. In this process, the green beans, packed with caffeine, are soaked in water from high-altitude mountains. This expunges most of the caffeine content. The next step involves running the water, now loaded with caffeine, through an elaborate filtration system.
This system helps to clear away about 99% of the caffeine originally found in the beans but maintains the flavour components of the coffee. The mountain water is now saturated with coffee flavours but without the caffeine.
The 50/50 combination works perfectly and you can enjoy the balanced mix of flavours: the washed one gives you the notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel with sweet vanilla and honey aroma. There are also seasonal fruits like red apple and stewed plum.
The Monte Alban decaf is adding up notes of praline and cocoa, with hints of caramelized apple, raspberry and strawberry. The aftertaste reveals red grape juiciness and a forest fruit jam mouthfeel.
So go ahead and enjoy this smooth-sipping half-caff blend just in time for the spooky season. As the chilly days roll in, treat yourself to this cosy Mexican coffee delight.
